Literature data: phase equilibria and thermochemistry from published papers
Dataset ORCHID-Values. Values read from the papers behind open CALPHAD assessments: invariant reactions, phase transitions, phase compositions, enthalpies, heat capacities, activities and lattice parameters. Each value carries its evidence class, units and conditions, the citation and DOI of the work it comes from, and the sentence or table row that backs it. Open the explorer · DFT vs experiment (formation enthalpies against Materials Project and OQMD).

Classes are never mixed or averaged. Model values are linked to the exact TDB file (path and SHA-256) when the link is unambiguous.

Coverage
How the data were made
- Sources. The papers cited by the SGTE binary assessments in the ORCHID catalog and related assessment literature, read from lawfully held PDFs. Tables were located and classified first (invariant-reaction tables, thermochemical, phase-composition and crystallographic tables); running text was read passage by passage.
- Independent readers. Each table is read independently by vision models (Gemini Flash, Claude Opus; Gemini Pro as a tie-break)
and by the PDF text layer. A row is accepted only when the readers agree; disputed rows go to a judge or stay flagged as
not accepted. Each table value states its
reader_agreement: confirmed by two or more readers, or unconfirmed (single reader), shown with a "single reader" badge in the explorer. Phase labels are mapped to CALPHAD model phases, and invariant reactions are cross-checked against pycalphad calculations with the linked TDB. - Quote verification (running text). A first and a second reader extract each value with a verbatim sentence and page.
The value is kept only if the quote is found verbatim on one page or passage of the paper and the printed number is inside it.
Since the 22 October 2026 fix-up, every published field must be printed in its own quote: a reader's field that is not
(a phase, method, reaction, citation, transition kind or temperature) is removed and only its existence is recorded
(
has_dropped_fields). - Window rule. A first-reader field missing from its quote survives only if it is printed in the quoted sentence's immediate context: citations in the same or preceding sentence of the same paragraph and page with no intervening citation; phases, methods and reactions in the same passage; transition kinds and temperatures only in the quoted sentence itself.
- Sign checks. Minus signs that the PDF text layer lost were checked on the rendered PDF page. Corrected values carry
sign_pdf_page_verified; values printed without a minus sign carryunsigned_in_printand are kept as printed. - Evidence class. Decided from what the paper prints: the table column or label, the cited work (its title, abstract or full text naming a measurement or a calculation), publication before 1980 (assumed experimental), or phase-diagram evaluations. A value whose origin cannot be settled stays unspecified.
- Method and conditions. A row's method is given only when printed with the value. Each paper's own experimental context (samples, purity, preparation, heat treatments, measurement technique, instrument, rates, atmosphere), each item with its quote and page, is attached only to values that are that paper's own experimental work; values cited from other works are marked conditions in the cited source.
- Placeholders. Where no uncertainty is printed, a placeholder (5 % or 10 %, or the reading resolution) is recorded with its basis; it is not a measured uncertainty.
